My innovative Read and Play column is featured monthly in Oregon Family newspaper. Read and Play previously appeared biweekly in the Sunday Boston Herald from September 2000 through March 2005 and has also had a guest appearance in the L.A. Daily News. Read and Play combines children's book reviews with entertaining and educational activities that help families have fun learning together. In a country where, now, more than ever, families need positive ways to connect this column is a must.
If you would like to see and experience Read and Play for yourself, here is a sample column to view.
"Read and Play" debuted in the Sunday Boston Herald in September 2000 and has been well received by readers. When families read the books and do the activities together it brings the column's theme to life, providing families with wholesome, engaging time together. With literally thousands of new books being published every year, topics for this column are endless.
The biggest advantage in the combined approach of Read and Play is its adaptability for the newspaper. The reviews for children's books can be pulled from the book section and integrated into a family or lifestyle section, providing information parents need in the place they look for it most. In addition, this provides editors much-needed space on their book review pages.
Read and Play can be edited to fit into any available space. Each weekly column is approximately 950 words and includes books and activities for children of all ages. I also provide digital photographs of two book covers and two craft projects that are featured in the column.
